Liquid 3D Emblems: What You Need to Know Before You Order

What your artwork needs before you order

Liquid 3D emblems are built from your artwork, so the file you send us matters. Here’s what to check before you submit a design, so it comes back looking exactly the way you pictured it.

File format

We can only work with vector PDF files. No JPGs, PNGs, or scanned images, raster files inside a PDF won’t process. Talk to your graphics person. If your logo currently only exists as a raster image, it’ll need to be recreated or traced as vector art first. Any text in your design also needs to be converted to outlines, and any strokes need to be converted into filled shapes, before you send it over. Size

• Maximum size: 2.375" x 4" (or 4" x 2.375", depending on orientation)
• Minimum size: 0.5" x 0.5"

If your logo is bigger or smaller than this, it’ll need to be resized or simplified to fit.

The fabric layer

Every Liquid 3D emblem needs a “fabric layer”, a single, connected base shape that holds the rest of your design together. Think of it as the backing your logo sits on. A few rules here:

• It has to be one continuous piece. If your logo is made of separate floating elements (like individual letters or icons with gaps between them), those need to be connected, or we can auto-generate a fabric layer for you.
• Fabric layers currently come in black or white (more colors coming soon).
• The fabric layer needs to be offset from the rest of your artwork by at least 1mm, so it cuts cleanly.
• Any holes or cutouts in the fabric layer need to be at least 2.6mm across. Anything smaller gets automatically removed.

Fine details and line thickness

Because this is a raised, dimensional product, very thin lines and tiny details don’t always survive the process. As a guide:

• Elements sitting directly on the fabric layer: at least 0.05" (1.25mm) thick
• Elements raised above the rest of the design: at least 0.01" (0.25mm) thick
• Fine, non-raised details: at least 0.005" (0.125mm)

If your logo has delicate script fonts or intricate line work, it’s worth checking these details before you submit.

Height and color

Emblems sit 1.25mm to 2.5mm above the fabric layer (the fabric layer itself adds another 1mm). Once your file is uploaded, colors automatically map to our library of over 180 shades, and there’s no limit on how many colors you use in a single design.

Gradients

Linear gradients are supported and can even be added inside the design tool. Do not add gradients to the art you submit. Radial gradients, gradient meshes, and gradient blends are not supported. If your file has one of these, it’ll be swapped for a solid color automatically.

If your art doesn’t meet spec

If something in your file falls outside these specs, our system can auto-fix it on upload. Keep in mind: auto-fix changes your design, and it can’t be undone. For the best results, and the least surprises, it’s worth getting your file within spec before you submit.

Where Liquid 3D works best

Liquid 3D is applied with heat, which makes it a great fit for:

• Caps, bags, and other non-washable items
• Cotton, polyester, and cotton-poly blend fabrics

A few things to watch out for:

• It’s not recommended for heat-sensitive fabrics like some nylons, silk, leather, wool, or fleece.
• If your item has a waterproof or specialty coating, test a sample first to confirm compatibility.
• Skip open-hole mesh garments, like the side panels of a mesh cap.
